Eminem, an American rapper, recorded the song Houdini. On May 31, 2024, it was released as the lead single off his upcoming twelfth studio album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).

The song incorporates several earlier Eminem compositions as well as the Steve Miller Band’s “Abracadabra” and has numerous pop culture references. The song, which was released with an accompanying music video, received great reviews from fans but scathing reviews from critics.

Houdini debuted on May 31, 2024. The lyrics mention Harry Houdini, Sherri Papini, RuPaul’s “big balls,” and R. Kelly’s urolagnia. They also make a reference to Eminem’s previous tune “Criminal,” which was criticised for having homophobic lyrics, and imply that the “old” Eminem would consider “the way shit is today” to be “gay.”

The lyrics to “Houdini” also ask if collaborating with Megan Thee Stallion would give Eminem “a shot at a feat,” referring to her being shot in the foot by Tory Lanez, fantasise about hitting an eight-year-old child in the face with a participation trophy, and claim that Eminem’s “transgender cat” is Siamese, “identifies as Black,” and “acts Chinese.”

The song features Eminem’s “Without Me,” “My Name Is,” and “Just Lose It,” as well as the Steve Miller Band’s “Abracadabra” from 1982. The day after its release, Steve Miller rushed to Instagram to praise Eminem as ‘one of those timeless originators developing something new on a lengthy musical tradition of unique musicians’.
